Never forget that Occult means hidden. I think this is a really important idea that many people lose sight of as they practice magic. An occultist is not necessarily a practitioner of magic, but one who explores whats hidden. They are often one in the same. Magical and religious systems I would argue all systems developed the same way. An outward projection of highly internalized and anchored understanding of processed experiences with the abstract mechanisms that create all. When this projection resonates through language and symbolism with another individual a common ground for collaborative exploration is established. The great conversation; this conversation is happening everywhere at every time and whats being said on all levels is reality because it is recognized.
All of these systems have developed mechanisms to deal with the consensual negative idea of darkness. Sometimes it will manifest in cycles until a larger theme can be seen. Through this comes learning, understanding, growth, evolution and creation. While switching from one system to another can really help shed some light on internal conflicts of ideas, however this does nothing if you do not allow yourself the time and personal honesty to synthesize them. Fear is a mechanism as well, one that you helped build yourself. Acknowledge and try to understand its triggers and tools, what are you afraid of and what does it use against you? Understanding how your own system works and interacts with external systems and phenomenon is the quintessence of “Know thy self”.
